Go Maroons LIVE is now in its fifth season of broadcasting University of Chicago soccer. Our goal always has been to make our webcasts accessible and free to listeners. Our students and alumni broadcast the full slate of men’s and women’s soccer games out of love for the sport, Division III, and of course, the Maroons.
By using open-source software, we have been able to keep our costs extremely low while reaching out to hundreds of unique listeners each season. But we have covered costs out of pocket in the past in order to travel and purchase necessary equipment. This season, we purchased a router ($40) and a new, low-cost server ($30 for the month we have used it so far) when the need arose.
So for the first time—and with some hesitation—we are opening up a donation page. Please do not feel obligated to donate, and keep in mind that we are able to cover all of our expenses.
We will use the following open system to allocate any funds we receive:
- Cover any equipment/server expenses. This has totaled less than $100 for 2009.
- Cover transportation costs for the play-by-play and color broadcaster.
- Pay a small stipend to broadcasters—prioritizing students first, then alumni.
- Maintain a budget for future investment in Go Maroons LIVE.
We are using Paypal—the simplest way to accept donations. So you are aware, after Paypal’s fees, we will get $4.55 on a donation of $5 and $9.41 on a donation of $10. We welcome your feedback at gomaroons@gmail.com.
Thank you for all your support this year. Your e-mails, your kind comments, your friendship at Maroons games mean everything to us.
